Recovery Motivator (Lived Experience Role)

The Recovery Motivator is a valued lived experience role within our Drug and Alcohol Service, focused on building meaningful relationships, reducing harm, and supporting sustained recovery. This position is designed to support individuals with personal experience of addiction to re-enter the workforce through a part-time opportunity that builds on their strengths, insights, and skills.

 

This role sits within our Outreach Team, where you will work as part of a dynamic and experienced group supporting individuals who may be homeless, living in insecure accommodation, hostels, or emergency housing, and who have drug and alcohol support needs.

 

Lived experience roles are central to our service. Your personal journey and perspective will be highly respected and will play a vital role in engaging and supporting the people we work with.

 

 

Location: CGL Brighton & Hove Recovery Service, Richmond House, Richmond Road, Brighton, BN2 3RL

Hours: 15 hours per week

Contract Type: Fixed Term until 31st March 2027

 

*Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, the salary and payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours.

Responsibilities

In this position, you will contribute to reducing harm, strengthening recovery networks, and developing skills that support both your personal growth and professional development. Key responsibilities include facilitating needle exchange provision across the city, delivering harm reduction advice, and supporting peer-led recovery activities such as group facilitation, signposting, and one-to-one support.

 

We are looking for a motivated individual who can work collaboratively as part of a team, use their initiative, and bring fresh ideas and innovation to the role. The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with service users is essential, alongside a strong awareness of local recovery support systems and how to access them.

 

Key Responsibilities (Desirable Experience)

  • Be a welcoming and inspiring presence within the Team.
  • Support individuals transitioning from structured treatment into long-term community recovery.
  • Improve engagement with rough sleepers
  • Strengthen pathways into treatment
  • Increase capacity and presence across key sites
  • Enhance multi-agency working
  • Improve Data through engagement, needs, and interventions
  • Provide evidence-based advice and support to service users in accordance with Change Grow Live policies, agreed protocols and national legislation
  • Liaise with the Management Team to identify opportunities to improve assertive outreach across Nottinghamshire
    Contribute towards reports on the activity and effectiveness of the role outcomes
  • Engage proactively with both line management and supervision and maintain a current knowledge of appropriate interventions

  • Lived experience of drug and/or alcohol misuse is welcomed.
  • Experience of or the proven ability to engage service multiple disadvantaged (SMD) services users
  • Evidence of a commitment to service user involvement and development
  • Experience of auditing to inform evaluation and service development
  • Experience of risk assessment and risk management procedures
  • Knowledge of the issues facing people who are homeless or rough sleeping
