Our Nurses play a critical role in delivering high-quality, recovery-focused clinical care across Change Grow Live services. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist nursing interventions to people whose lives have been affected by drug and alcohol use, helping to improve health outcomes and reduce harm.
We are now seeking an experienced and passionate Substance Misuse Nurse to join our Walsall service. This is an excellent opportunity to use your clinical expertise, judgement and compassion to shape how clinical services are delivered locally, while contributing to wider service development and continuous improvement.
Recent experience of working directly with people affected by substance misuse within the last 12 months is essential for this role.
About the Role
You will:
Undertake comprehensive physical and mental health assessments when indicated by clinical need.
Ensure appropriate signposting and referral to primary or secondary healthcare services for identified health concerns.
Provide health education, health promotion and screening for blood-borne viruses (BBVs), including administering Hepatitis B vaccinations where indicated.
Contribute to Change Grow Live’s Naloxone Strategy, training staff and service users and ensuring Naloxone is offered at every appropriate opportunity.
Develop strong therapeutic relationships with people accessing services, supporting engagement and recovery.
Deliver harm reduction advice to people who inject drugs, including the provision of information and equipment and ensuring safe disposal.
Ensure clinical practice aligns with UK Guidelines on Clinical Management, NICE guidance and Change Grow Live clinical protocols.
Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records to meet contractual, administrative and governance requirements.
Location: Walsall
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (9:00am – 5:00pm)
Salary*: £36,635.37 – £42,743.46 per annum, dependent on experience (pro rata for part time)
Contract: Permanent
*Please note: Full-time hours at Change Grow Live are 37.5 hours per week. For part-time roles, salary and payments will be pro rata based on contracted hours.
You will be:
A first-level registered nurse with a current NMC PIN and recent, relevant post-qualification experience.
Experienced in working within drug and alcohol treatment services, with direct substance misuse client experience in the last 12 months.
Knowledgeable in harm reduction and health promotion interventions.
Confident in assessment, recovery planning and written clinical reporting.
Skilled in clinical audit and evaluation to support service improvement.
Professional, empathetic and non-judgemental in your approach.
Committed to professional integrity and collaborative working with service users, colleagues and partner agencies.
Working in Walsall
In Walsall, Change Grow Live works closely with primary care, public health teams, acute services and community partners to deliver integrated drug and alcohol treatment. Our services are designed to respond to local need, reduce health inequalities and ensure people can access timely, effective clinical support. As a Substance Misuse Nurse in Walsall, you will play a key role in delivering harm reduction, health promotion and recovery-focused care within a community-based setting.
