Who we are:

Positive Choices is Change Grow Live’s confidential service in Coventry supporting young people between the ages of 5 and 24. We offer advice and guidance to young people who are affected by a loved one’s drug or alcohol misuse or if they are using drugs or alcohol themselves and want support to make changes. We also support young people around unhealthy partner relationships, sexual health and keeping safe online and in the community. We are an Award-Winning Service with a great reputation across the city looking to expand our team with people that want to make a real difference.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • We’re looking for a hard-working, enthusiastic, and non-judgmental individual who has the confidence to engage with young people aged 16 and above. You’ll work closely with their families, carers, and partner agencies to provide meaningful support and positive outcomes.
  • Support young people who use substances to reach their full potential. Prior experience working with this age group and an understanding of the challenges they face will be beneficial, along with good knowledge of substances and the reasons young people may use them.
  • Meet young people where they feel most comfortable—this role involves a mix of outreach work and access to a central base. Creativity is key, as some young people may prefer digital engagement.
  • Manage a caseload, working one-to-one with young people to complete comprehensive assessments, identify support needs, and manage risk effectively.
  • Deliver evidence-based interventions that empower young people to understand themselves, their behaviours, and substance use—helping them make informed decisions and positive changes.
  • Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, escalating them appropriately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead when necessary.
  • Co-ordinate and deliver targeted group interventions, ensuring that young people receive tailored support that meets their needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key partners, including Throughcare, supported accommodation providers, and CGL’s adult services, to enhance joined-up support for young people.
  • Provide training and consultation to professionals on the issues young people face, particularly around substance use.
  • Keep accurate and timely records on internal systems, ensuring all notes are up to date and reflective of the support provided.

Here is what a Resilience Worker in the team had to say:

‘My job is really varied, I can be in schools talking about consent and healthy relationships, out in the community running group sessions about drugs and alcohol or supporting young people with getting involved in activities like boxing or running club. I get to spend every day working with young people and seeing the difference you can make to a young person's life makes my job feel so rewarding. I love how supportive our team is and the passion and care we all have for our young people and their families. We are always open to trying new ways of working if it is beneficial for the young people we are supporting and that is a great thing to be a part of.’

The role is very rewarding though it can be emotionally taxing. The team are very supportive and are always available for de-brief. There is other support in place such as supervision, a training and induction package, shadowing and team meetings. There are lots of other benefits to working at Change Grow Live including:

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increases with length of service)
  • Company pension scheme
  • Weekly wellbeing hour
  • Discounts on retailers through our You at Work Portal
