We have an exciting opportunity for a Peer Mentor Coordinator for the Pathways to Recovery service at our West Kent Prisons (HMP Rochester, HMP Maidstone and HMP East Sutton Park) Our focus is to facilitate recovery, reinforce hope and support lifestyle change with prisoners engaging with our service.

 

No two days are the same and we treat every person who comes into our service as an individual, so being flexible, curious and a good listener are key.

 

Where: West Kent Prisons 

Full Time Hours: 37.5 per week 

Full Time Salary: £27,449.52- £31,529.41 (pro rata for part time hours)

Responsibilities

About the role: 

 

  • Case management responsibility for all Peer Mentors throughout
    their recovery journey across the West Kent Prison Cluster.
  • Deliver Certa Level 1/2 Accredited Peer Mentoring training.
  • Work within the Certa quality assurance guidelines in relation to the training and assessing of Peer Mentor qualifications.
  • To champion recovery within the project through promoting Peer led activities.
  • Attend meetings appropriate to the development and maintenance of the Peer Mentor scheme in agreement with and under the direction of the line manager.
  • Utilise psychosocial interventions in both one-to-one and group settings to promote engagement in treatment services, encourage self-esteem, well-being, self-responsibility and enhanced motivation for personal change and ownership of recovery planning.
  • Develop and review SMART recovery/treatment plans and referrals for psychosocial interventions. Liaise closely with the full range of specialist workers within a multi-disciplinary team, including wrap around services and external supporting agencies.
  • Liaise with community services to ensure effective continuity of care for all Peer Mentors that engage with Pathways to Recovery. 

 

About you: 

 

  • Minimum 12 months experience of working effectively with alcohol and/or substance users in the Health and Social Care setting.
  • Experience of facilitating therapeutic groups
  • Sound and demonstrable knowledge of harm reduction and health promotion interventions.
  • Knowledge of issues facing alcohol and/or substance misuser's including appropriate clinical interventions, social care and health issues.
  • Ability to assess and recovery plan service users, make appropriate referrals and formulate written reports as necessary.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the effects of drugs/alcohol on service users.
  • Experience of delivering brief interventions such as motivational interviewing and understanding of effective and evidence based practices.
  • A flexible open approach and awareness of barriers to accessing services, facing hard to reach groups.
  • Experience of working in partnership with other agencies.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and work effectively with partnership agencies.
  • Confidence to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • Commitment to reducing the rates of drug use within the prison service.
  • Seek out learning opportunities to improve and broaden your professional knowledge and skills and to contribute and oversee the learning and development of others
